Anyone who has ever seen Natascha Polké live could easily
assume that she is a born rock star in every respect: when
she stands behind her equipment in clubs or on festival
stages, she always comes across as charismatic and self-
assured, as if born for the limelight. The truth is, of course, a
little more complicated.
Natascha Polké is certainly convinced of her musical skills -
and rightly so! The 29-year-old from Zurich not only has an
impressive catalog of releases to her name, she also has a
Master of Arts in Music.
Nevertheless, publicity is not necessarily in her blood.
Natascha says she is rather introverted and has had to work
on getting her nervousness under control at gigs and
interviews. The young artist is also rather reserved on social
media and prefers to let her music speak for itself instead of
putting herself in the spotlight.
The descendant of the famous German artist Sigmar Polke
- founding father of Capitalist Realism - therefore classifies
herself as a "studio mole". "In music studios, surrounded by
synthesizers and drum machines, I feel in my element. I
realized that even before I discovered the world of
electronic music," says Polké.
She discovered her penchant for fiddling around with
synthesizers and drum machines at the renowned Wembley
Studios in London. In 2015, she earned her money there as
a production assistant alongside her music studies with a
focus on songwriting at the University of East London.
She was creatively involved in the production of K-Pop
albums, composed synch's for commercials and films and
developed soundtracks for other artists. A short time later,
the then 21-year-old won the "Roundhouse Rising"
production competition at the Roundhouse London - a
club in Camden that had already played host to the Rolling
Stones, David Bowie and Kraftwerk.
"The four years in London were extremely formative for me
and my music," says Natascha Polké today. "I breathed the
incredibly diverse sound of this city every day, which still
inspires me today like few other things. I also discovered my
passion for knobs, cables and studio work in London. And
last but not least, I fell in love with electronic music in the
clubs and on the streets of London." A love that Polké took
home with her and still cherishes with dedication today!
She made a lasting impression on the scene with her debut
EP "Stars Wrapped in Skin" on Definition:Music and has since
released on labels such as Pias, Anjunadeep, This Never
Happened, Stil vor Talent and Gardens of Babylon.
The only place Natacha Polké prefers the spotlight to the
studio is the spotlight itself: In the summer of 2022, she
switched from DJing to live performances, where she uses
her dreamy voice alongside synthesizers and other
gadgets. Since this switch, she has performed at some of
the world's most prestigious venues and festivals, including
Club Chinois in Ibiza, Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE),
Scorpios in Mykonos and Dockville in Hamburg.
