Born in Caracas, Venezuela and raised in Miami, Florida, bilingual singer-songwriter Maye was inspired to write songs at a very young age, growing up in a family of musicians. The songs she would write over the years became the songs she would perform at Miami gigs, leading to her first publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music. In 2019, Ella Maye released her first single “My Love”, a mostly English song that includes a line in Spanish, which was met with acclaim. Maye followed up with “Tú,” her first single entirely in Spanish that was later placed on Barack Obama's Official Playlist in the summer of 2020. Maye continues to write and release music with lyrics that reflect the romantic nostalgia of her own references, such as Billy Holiday.
