Formed in Berkeley, California while studying at university, the group wasted no time in putting together their debut release, a self-titled two-track single, in 2014. A handful of demos followed before the band focused on recording their debut album. Recorded by Ryan Ellery (Just Friends, Meet Me in Montauk ) and originally self-released in 2016, Best Buds was eventually picked up by indie label Counter Intuitive after earning the band plaudits for their slacker-styled, emo-tinged punk rock. Eschewing the usual route of heading out on tour to capitalize on the release, the band decided to stay in Berkeley to finish their studies, playing just select dates. A split single with Graduating Life was issued in 2017, alongside the split EP NOW That's What I Call Music, Vol. 420, which also featured Prince Daddy & the Hyena and Pictures of Vernon. The group returned in 2018 with their sophomore release, the Ellery-helmed Puppy Love. Issued once again by Counter Intuitive , the group headed out on tour to support the release, with dates taking in the U.S., U.K. and Europe. 2021 saw the release of the sugary single "What's Up?," ahead of the arrival of the band's third studio album, the aptly named Sweet Tooth, which appeared the following year. ~ Rich Wilson, Rovi
