About the Event
Doors: 7:00 Show: 8:00 PM
The Darcys is the ever-evolving musical project formed by Toronto’s Jason Couse and Wes Marskell. For The Darcys, every album is an event, accompanied by vibrant imagery and playful lyrics, with each release they craft distinct eras that explore their creative headspace. The duo follows “Running For The Hills,” their highest charting radio single ever, with “Washed Away,” a moody alt-rock smash with syncopated guitar work that drives to an explosive and anthemic chorus. Lyrically, the song confronts the duo’s struggle to create music in an era that values quantity over quality. “When we try to meet every expectation,” says Marskell, “our mental health suffers, we burn out, and it’s difficult to find our way back to the surface.” “We wanted to confront and acknowledge this toxic cycle as a first step to bettering our complicated relationship with creativity,” says Couse. He adds “turning these feelings into a song was extremely rewarding.” Over the past 10 years, The Darcys have released five distinctive and critically acclaimed albums, earning them more than 21 million streams, nominations for a JUNO Award, Polaris Prize, and an MMVA, as well as praise from outlets such as Billboard, SPIN, NPR, American Songwriter and Esquire. WIth “Washed Away,” The Darcys further define the sound of their forthcoming EP, due fall 2022.

The Darcys

The Darcys is the ever-evolving musical project formed by Toronto’s Jason Couse and Wes Marskell. For The Darcys, each album is a distinct era designed to explore the duo’s creative headspace through vibrant imagery and playful lyrics. With “Running For The Hills,” The Darcys offer a glimpse into their next chapter, a forthcoming EP due in 2022. The song is powerful and triumphant with its sidewinding guitar riff, explosive chorus, and hopeful lyrics about looking forward, not back. “I’m well aware that the bright lights of LA can often be a mirage, but I needed to live it for myself,” says Marskell, of the pop-minded alt-rock track that was influenced by the duo’s move from Toronto to Los Angeles. Over the past 10 years, The Darcys have released five diverse and critically acclaimed albums, earning them more than 22 million streams, nominations for a JUNO Award (Alternative Album of The Year), the Polaris Prize, and an MMVA, as well as praise from outlets such as Billboard, SPIN, NPR, American Songwriter, and Esquire. The duo recently launched “The Glory Days” podcast, an NFT, and a grant program for emerging Canadian artists.
