At twenty years of age and now on the cusp of releasing his debut album 4TH WALL via RCA (ROW) & Sony Music (Australia), Ruel’s discovery of self-assurance is perfectly timed. The Sydney-bred singer-songwriter speaks confidently about the release’s authenticity “It’s exactly the music I wanted to write... what I had in my head. It’s me executing my ideas, instead of trying to execute other people’s ideas in my way.” Executively Produced by long-time collaborator M-Phazes (Khalid, Noah Cyrus, Remi Wolf), 4TH WALL was originally heading down a Pop/R&B lane, however, the pandemic acted as a major personal and professional conduit for Ruel. His matured identity galvanized the decision to forge his own creative directive, and played a vital part in expanding his musical horizons. Ruel notes “It took way longer than anticipated to get this record right. I spent the last 3 years writing it and wound up with over 100 songs. I rewrote half of them and re-recorded most of them... It’s been the biggest journey making this record...”.
These revelations are strikingly obvious in the 4TH WALL singles that Ruel has treated his audience to, including the dancefloor anthem GROWING UP IS _____, dream-like LET THE GRASS GROW, the poignant social and personal observations of YOU AGAINST YOURSELF, and most recently, the beautifully emotive ballad MUST BE NICE
Important Information
Ruel

Australian native Ruel debuted in 2017 when he was 14 years old. His neo-soul style followed in the footsteps of Sam Smith, but Ruel had a facility with glassy electronic R&B, something evident on "Golden Years," his debut single recorded with M-Phazes, a producer who'd previously worked with Eminem. Born and raised in Sydney, Australia, Ruel started singing as a child and was discovered by M-Phazes when the vocalist was 12 years old. The pair began collaborating, with "Golden Years" being the first fruit in April 2017. Ruel began to gain momentum with a June cover of Jack Garratt's "Weathered" on Australian radio station Triple J's Like a Version program. A second single, "Don't Tell Me," followed in July, and Ruel set out on a September tour supporting Angus & Julia Stone. He signed with RCA Records late that year. In June 2018, he issued his debut EP Ready. Led by the hit single "Painkiller," Ruel released his follow-up EP, Free Time, in September 2019.
