Event Info
Peyman Salimi returns to Toronto with his brilliant mix of alternative pop/rock songs in English and Persian that he will perform live with Zoe Guigueno on bass and vocals. Dastgâmachine start the evening with their unique form of psychedelia, incorporating the sounds and production techniques of dub, techno, and musique concrete into the Dastgâ system of arranging classical Persian art music.
With four albums under his solo project, Peyman Salimi uses his music to raise awareness and show his support for the women of Iran, hoping to inspire others to take action and back the movement. The Iranian-Italian contemporary singer, songwriter and music producer was the longtime lead vocalist and guitarist for indie-rock band The Allophones, formed in Florence in 2010, known for their rich guitar riffs, melodic vocal lines and intriguing grooves. While he continues to collaborate and perform with them, Zoe Guigueno, a Canadian bass player and singer-songwriter based in Brooklyn, will animate Salimi’s songs, creating a powerful and dynamic experience as a duo.
Dastgâmachine (Mahmood Schricker, Caleb Klager, and Jason Rule) embrace a legible and unique form of psychedelia, incorporating the sounds and production techniques of dub, techno, and musique concrete into the Dastgâ system of arranging classical Persian art music. The three come from disparate scenes and sound worlds: Mahmood (on electric setar) from a traditional composition background, with years of performance and soundtrack experience; Caleb (on electronics) having gone from studying jazz composition to creating full throttle techno alongside performing in jazz ensembles and live at MUTEK; and Jason (on turntables) having experience with computer music ensembles and over 15 years of radio and club DJing under their belt in multiple countries.
