If you have noticed the nightlife scene feeling a bit different lately, you are not wrong. Research shows that Gen Z is drinking less than previous generations, not because they do not want to socialize or lack interest in going out. Instead they are redefining what a night out looks like. Choosing events that prioritize great music, solid social vibes and actually remembering the night. Bar owners, event organizers, and nightlife promoters need to understand this shift in customer needs and cater to it in order to survive financially and keep their current customer base happy.

The Cause of This Shift

People are prioritizing their physical and mental health, swapping out alcoholic beverages for their non alcoholic versions on nights out or fun mocktails. Protecting mental health and warding off “hangxiety” have been on the forefront of the younger generations mind. They are more aware of how they are feeling after a night out and are finding alternative ways to go out and socialize without having to deal with the dreaded post drinking anxiety spike and brain fog that throws off their whole week. Prioritizing sleep and reclaiming weekend mornings, the mindset has shifted from sleeping all day trying to recover from a hangover to actually enjoying the weekend, waking up early to grab coffee, meet up with friends, and enjoy the day.

A night out drinking can cost over $100. Being more intentional on what they are spending their money on, younger event goers prefer to spend their money on event tickets, travel, or other experiences. Not only are drinks getting more expensive, they are reaching the point of no value. With a couple of rounds of drinks, food, and Ubers you can easily spend $200 without realizing it. That’s when people start wondering if their night out was even worth it.

Socializing without alcohol is no longer considered “odd” or a sacrifice. The wellness movement has convinced consumers to expect venues to cater to their lifestyle choices without feeling left out. Venues that are adapting to this shift are unlocking a new customer base, increasing their revenue and keeping sober curious guests in the venue.

The Rise of Sober Curious Events

Promoters and venue operators are now realizing that not every event needs to be centered around alcohol in order to be profitable and memorable. There are more functional alternatives available right now replacing alcohol with something that feels good. As consumer habits shift this opens up a new genre of daytime social experiences. Events like The Coffee Party are now redefining the traditional party model and increasing in popularity that it is now becoming the preferred choice by event goers. With its main focus being community gathering, The Coffee Party hosted on AdmitONE changes the standard party model by combining DJ sets with specialty coffee, matcha bars and fresh local pastries for everyone to enjoy, no alcohol included.

Creating spaces where guests feel energized rather than drained isn’t just a cultural win, it’s a business opportunity. By expanding beyond the traditional alcohol-heavy model, promoters tap into a different market. Passionate, loyal audiences ready to spend on premium experiences.
