Pointed Sticks
The Pointed Sticks are a 5-piece band from Vancouver, Canada. Their music has been described as “Raw Power Pop”, a mutant cross that falls somewhere between ABBA and the Stooges. Formed in 1978, the group still features every one of its original members. During a tumultuous 3 year period between 1978 and 1981, the band released three classic singles, including What Do You Want Me To Do?, the much covered Out of Luck, and the Bob Rock produced LP, Perfect Youth. During this time, the band were signed briefly to England’s prestigious Stiff Records label, for whom they recorded another single, as well as an unreleased until 2007 LP.
After their initial breakup in 1981, the band members spent the next 25 years working, raising families, and living normal lives. However, in 2006, following on the enormous success of the re-release of their recordings in Japan, the band agreed to re-unite for a brief 3 date tour in the land of the rising sun. The gigs proved to be such an overwhelming success, and so enjoyable that the experience continues to this day. Since then, they have played, albeit infrequently, all over the world, including Europe in 2019. They’ve released 3 full length LP’s of new music, including their latest, Beautiful Future.
