Lucky Daye

Lucky Daye has always been an artist in motion. Long celebrated as one of modern R&B’s most meticulous craftsmen — balancing technical precision against emotional depth — the GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer has spent years expanding the boundaries of the genre while redefining his own artistry. But with his fifth album, ALOUD, that movement is freer than ever as he approaches the music like a veteran ball player does in the off-season. The New Orleans-born, Los Angeles-based musician is still honing his craft — always — but he’s casting aside expectation, embracing exploration, and simply enjoying the game.

Before becoming one of progressive R&B’s defining voices, Lucky discovered his love of music and natural gift for songwriting as a kid in New Orleans — first in worship and soon in the world (his stage name is in part inspired by Marvin Gaye). He eventually ventured to L.A. to pursue his dreams, using his skills to assist artists like Keith Sweat, Ne-Yo, Mary J. Blige, and Ella Mai. He continued sharpening his pen and earning industry respect before claiming the spotlight himself.

Lucky’s breakthrough debut album, 2019’s Painted, was a seamless blur of classic soul and experimental production that nabbed four GRAMMY nods, including for Best R&B Album. He then expanded his sonic universe across his GRAMMY-winning duets EP Table for Two, 2022’s delectably sultry sophomore set Candydrip, and 2024’s Algorithm LP, which celebrated R&B’s kaleidoscopic nature with an infusion of guitar, plus cameos from Teddy Swims and RAYE.

Now, ALOUD shows an artist fully trusting himself. Beneath the layers accumulated over the years — larger-than-life performer, charismatic storyteller, decorated songwriter — is a man enjoying life on his terms and encouraging listeners to do the same both in the music and how he made it. “Don’t let anybody silence you or tell you who you’re supposed to be,” says Lucky Daye. “Say what you want, move how you want, and dance your way through the hard times.”
