LAIKA
Toronto-born “Emo Synth-Pop Princess” Laika started her career as a webcam model online 5 years ago where she spent the majority of her time playing guitar and singing to her audience. After years of building a dedicated online fan base through webcamming, she decided to launch her music career in 2018 with the release of her first single “Earl Grey”. Laika’s interest in singing began as early as the age of 5, watching and listening to her dad play guitar and sing to her. She performed in school talent shows, shopping malls and landed a audition for Canada’s Got Talent with her father Michael. Heavily influenced by artists such as Lights/Halsey/Pale Waves, Laika describes her music as a brief look into her diary, set to moody synth wave sounds and catchy pop beats. Laika’s upcoming EP “SAD GIRL” is written and produced by herself and childhood friend Logan Trearty. Laika is committed to pushing the boundaries surrounding the stigma around sex work and main stream pop music. In 2019 VICE published an article about her transition from webcam model to pop star, outlining her idea that one can still exist with the other. Currently, her debut EP “SAD GIRL”, released under Atlanta-based label Radar Live, is set to be released November 6th, 2020.
