Big Rig

In the early pre-pandemic months of 2020, The Courtneys wrapped up the recording of their latest (as of yet unreleased) album. Drummer/singer Jen Twynn Payne had time on her hands, and decided to teach herself how to play guitar. While jamming with Geoffo Reith, a skilled banjo picker and her cousin-in-law, she began writing tunes that would become Big Rig's debut album. Drawing on a lifelong love of country music instilled by her Alberta upbringing, combined with the heart-on-sleeve hooks of Elliott Smith, the slowcore of Duster, and more recent musical obsessions, she created Big Rig's signature "twangmo" (twangy emo) sound.
