Bringing back the sounds of 80’s new wave, Spectator 6 tops drum machines with cool synths, crunchy guitars, and girl-group style harmonies. In the summer of 2018, Annie Wilkinson (Zolty Cracker, Zulu/ MCA recording artists knock-downginger, Thermos, Onward Voyageur) wanted to start a new girl-group with a focus on the 80s sounds of the bands she grew up with. Soon joined by Tallulah Winkelman (China Repair) on guitar and Kelly Jean Hood (Pill Squad, Cora and the Moon) on bass, the band quickly set about writing a set of upbeat, electropop-punk songs strong on hooks and harmonies, and dealing with heartbreak, politics and feminism. Since their first gig in September of 2018, S6 have kept up a steady stream of gigging: performing a residency at the Wise Lounge, at Farm Fest XIII and the mini-fest Flatlandia, and at the West End Car Free Day, among others. In November of 2019 they retreated to Galiano Island to record their debut album, which was released in the summer of the pandemic.
